Templates teach Notra your documentation style. Each default template (SOAP, H&P, Progress, Clinic, Post-op) ships with editable starter rules that define section structure and formatting. Change those rules in Studio to change the note.
Built-ins vs. yours
New accounts get private copies of the five default formats with starter instructions already filled in — the “mine” chip marks them as yours. Edit or clear the rules anytime; other clinicians never see them.
Writing good rules
Write rules in plain English, like you are briefing a human scribe:
- “Use bullet points for medication lists”
- “Always include the LMP for female patients of reproductive age”
- “Spell out drug names on first use, then abbreviate”
- “Bold the assessment numbers”
- “Keep the plan to three sentences or fewer per problem”
Tips
- Edit the starter rules. Defaults are a starting point — rewrite section titles, order, and style to match how you document.
- Specific beats general. “Replace ‘c/o’ with ‘complains of’” is more useful than “be formal”.
- You can save examples. Drop in a sample paragraph and tell Notra to match its tone.
- Rules apply at generation time. Existing notes do not change retroactively; new recordings using this template will follow the latest rules.
What happens at recording
On the Record screen, pick the template before you start. After you stop, Notra sends the de-identified transcript and your rules to the note generator, which produces the note in your preferred style.
